the reality of your 20’s + other thoughts

the reality of your 20’s

When I was younger, I pictured my 20’s as being glamorous. I thought I’d have my life together, be married by the time I was 23 (let’s all take a moment…hahahahaha), and even have my own house. But your 20’s aren’t like that. At all. Post grad depression is real. Changing your life course is real. Balancing personal growth with your fear of change is oh, so real. Your 20’s are a little lonely, a little hard, and a lot of feeling lost.

And that’s okay.

It’s what it’s all about.

self-love

So, I saw a post on tumblr a few days ago talking about self-love. The post mentioned how self-love goes beyond bubble baths and face masks. It’s also about owning up to your mistakes, accepting flaws, and encouraging yourself to be better. It’s about taking charge of situations and doing things that your future self will thank you for.

I’d also like to add that self-love can also be removing toxic people from your life and focusing on the people who support you and love you.

give yourself a break

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Life is about balance, there will be highs and lows. And then there will be the lower-than-the-lows moments. But things always work out like they are meant to. You will get into college. You will pass that class. You will graduate. You will find love. You will be okay. And even if you don’t, you will still be okay.

So, take a breath.

do what you love

It’s difficult in this life to become who we want to be instead of who we think we should be. But doing what you love, what makes you happy, should never come second. This may apply to other life aspects, but I am really writing this for the I-really-want-to-do-*insert dream job*-but-I-won’t-make-money-so-I’m-going-to-choose-the-money-making-job people. I think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to “become something” that we forget to follow our passions. It’s not lame to want to just be a mom. It’s not lame to want to become a doctor or a rocket scientist. And it’s certainly not lame to want to be an artist or musician.

What I’m trying to say is, follow your passion.

DO. WHAT. YOU. LOVE.

roll with the punches

Just take things as they come. Nothing will ever go as planned, but that can bring new opportunities. Simple as that.

oh, and one more thing:

John Mayer is The Man.

And always be loving.

    1. Awww Happy Belated Birthday!! Haha well, your 20s aren’t all bad, there are definitely some fun stuff. But it’s definitely a different chapter in your life: you’re not a teen anymore but you’re certainly not a full functioning, confident adult! Time and experience will change that, just gotta get through it.
Yes, John (we are def on first name basis😂) is seriously the coolest 😊
